COVID 19

Its 28th March, 2020 today….apparently, 2 days are left for my ISC Psychology paper and here I am writing this article instead of preparing .
This sort of irresponsible behaviour is not usually shown by the species like me but I think it is mandatory to jot down the thoughts of a person who is currently being a part of something so terrible, which is sure to be history in the forthcoming years.

Yes, my paper has been cancelled because of the deadly virus. I can bet that every student of 2020 batch is currently going through a state of disillusion, frustation and confusion about their future. With all our entances being cancelled, all our party plans falling through for lack of freedom, all our energies being confined within the boundaries of our households, our results pending and our dreams seeming to fall in a chaotic abyss , it is but natural to be disappointed. But wait, this is just the trailer of what is yet to come.

The CORONA VIRUS that emerged from China { wheather it is a bio-weapon or not is a debatable issue } has taken a toll of more than 27000 lives all around the world. Major economies of the world are crashing, governments are helpless, generations are being scrapped in a single blow, best medical techniques are failing us, people are scared, some are ignorant and negligent too and by being so they are only increasing the threat of the pandemic.

Inspite of the measures that have been taken, 20 people have died in India and it gives me goosebumps to think of the situation we are going to face in the upcoming weeks. India, being a developing nation, neither has the technology to deal with the crisis nor the infrastructure to survive the damage it will cause. Thus, battling against the odds, our only chance of survival lies in isolation. People have to understand that the only way they can keep themselves and their loved ones safe is by being quarantined. Yes, it has it’s own implications, the biggest of them being boredom, supply of necessary items and financial problems. People are hoarding supplies, black marketing is gaining ground, stocks of food are being kept in households, people are rushing in the markets without paying any heed to social distancing.
This is exactly the opposite way in which the responsible citizens of a nation should behave in the face of this adversity. Before doing any such thing, why can’t we think about those men and women who are out there working day and night just for the sake of our safety, who are performing their national duties today, who are not caring about their own life and family but their only concern is to save their nation.
The answer is : because we are so self-contained that we have forgotten to think about our society and country as a whole.

This is undoubtedly one of the most awful situations one can go through but instead of cribbing and grumbling about the topsy-turvy conditions, let’s try to use it as much as we can. Many families are living together after a long span of time, pollution levels have come down, the speed of the world has been reduced, people have time to think, relax, share their feelings, get in touch with long lost friends, devote themselves towards creative work, talk with their family members, rediscover the hobbies that have been covered by the dust of time and slow down to admire the natural beauty. Nature has given itself a break. Yes, it will have some consequences but we will come out if it together. Humanity has always won and so will it in future. Our world will once again be normal with all its pace and glaze. The only ones disappointed will be the humanities students as they would have an extra chapter to read XD

So for now, try to be less critical and more creative.
Stay at home. Be safe and let others be safe.

Yours sincerely,
A muddled student of batch 2020
